Police conduct flag march to check clashes at Nabarangpur.

Nabarangpur:, 1 January: Police conducted a flag march and stepped up patrolling in sensitive locations of the town here today following a scuffle between members of two communities late last night. Four people have been arrested for yesterdays incident. Armed police marched along the Dasaharapada road and another area of town.According to police sources some miscreants pelted stones and attacked a place of worship late last night. The stone pelting resulted in damages to lights and other articles at the place of worship. The victims of the attack protested but were abused and assaulted by the miscreants. Early this morning, a police complaint was lodged by the victims and the matter was reported to district SP P Gupta. The complainants also demanded compensation towards the damage caused to their place of worship. Inspector in charge of the Town Police Station, Ramesh Bissoyi said four persons have been arrested in connection with the incident.Four platoon police have been deployed in the sensitive localities of the town said police

Block level Mondei festival Begins.

Mondei the cultural festival of Nabarangpur begins at block level on Thursday. The inaugural puja was performed at Jagannath temple at Chandahandi in presence of Commerce and transport minister Ramesh Chandra Majhi, MP Balabhadra Majhi, Nabarangpur MLA Manohar Randhari, ZP President Motiram Nayak, Collector Md.Sadique Alam, Addl SP Pinak Mishra, ADM Bhimman Seth, Sub-Collector Parikhit Seth was present.

A huge procession marking the occasion was brought out “Mondei Mashal” coupled with tribal folk dances and music from Jagannath temple to the Panabedha high school ground. 

     Speaking on the occasion Minister Mr. Majhi said that the festival provides a platform for local artists to showcase talent at the grassroots and also reaches out to the people to create awareness about the different government schemes.

Mondei has succeeded in integrating the people as was evident from the enthusiasm with which thousands of tribal men and women participated in the festival. Majhi added.

MP Er. Balabhadra Majhi, said the mega cultural festival celebrated by the district council of culture was definitely a bold step which symbolises the age old tradition of the tribals.

Nabarangpur MLA Manohar Randhari, said Mondei is a leading festival of the district unique in its aim of spotting hidden talents in the field of art,culture and sports at the grass-root levels as well as to promote the rich cultural heritage of this region.


Collector, Md Sadique Alam , said the Mondei is the people’s festival of Nabarangpur district. It is an occasion to bring to the notice of others, besides developmental activities, the local life-style, traditional art, music and cultural activities. It also sends out message of love, peace friendship and prosperity.




The block level celebration of Mondei festival will continue till 3rd December while the main  festival will be held in December 10 to 12 at Nabarangpur town.

District BJD Holds Padayatra's at Nabarangpur

The district BJD holds Jan Sampark Padayatra (people’s contact programme) in various parts of district to highlight the achievements of the Government.

Transport and Commerce Minister Ramesh Chandra Majhi, with MLA Manohar Randhari, Zilla Parisad President Motiram Nayak, District BJD General Secretary Asish Ranjan Patnaik, and other party delegates holds Jan Sampark Padayatra’s at Nabarangpur,Jharigam, Umerkote and  Dabugam assembly segments. 

During the meetings Minister Mr. Majhi said that the air of the programme was to make the people aware of the achievements of BJD government during the past 14 years. Our party’s commitment in the election manifesto Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, launched Biju Expressway, Biju Pucca Ghara Yojana, Mukhya Mantri Nijukti Yojana, Mukhya Mantri Sadak Yojana and a progressive women police’ he added.

11 killed 30 Injured In Chandahandi accident

Nabarangpur: At least 11 people were killed when a mini truck carrying them hit a roadside tree near Jharigam.

Over a dozen people were injured in the accident which took place Friday night in a hilly and forested area near Jharigaon.
 
The vehicle with over 50 people on board was on its way from Dabugaon to Chandahandi. The passengers were members of a local opera troupe who were going to Chandahandi to perform. The driver appeared to have lost his control and crashed into a road side tree, police said.

Preparatory Meeting for the celebration of Mondei-2014

The preparatory meeting for celebration of the annual tribal festival Mondei-2014 was held here under the chairmanship of District Collector Md.Sadique Alam here at Mission Shakti Conference hall.

 It was decided that Mondei will kick off from Chandahandi block. The block level Mondei will kicks off from 28 November to 3rd December. And the district level festival will be from December 10th to 14th.


Md. Alam said the aim of Mondei was to spot the hidden talents in the fields of art, culture, sports, and encourage in the participations of different competitions which is being organized for the first time during the festival Drama troupes from Koraput district will be included in the district level Drama festival while volleyball and Kabadi competitions will be part of the sports festival he added.

Like the previous years, the block level festivals will have cultural programmes consisting of competitions on drama, dance, songs, traditional music, drawing, poetry recitation, healthy baby contest and photo exhibition etc.  ADM Bhimman Seth, Sub Collector Parikhit Seth, PDDRDA Gopinath Sarka, DSP Urdhab Nayak, Minister Representative Prmod Padhy, besides officials and members of the district council of culture (DCC) and members of Mondei committee were present.

Swachha Bharat Abhiyan launched at Nabarangpur

The National Sanitation Campaign under Swachha Bharat Mission launched from September 25 to October 23 next month commenced here on Thursday at Mission Shakti Conference hall.

Collector Md.Sadique Alam was the chief guest said the district administration will launch a special cleanliness drive on Gandhi Jayanti i.e. 2ndOctober, 2014 in district involving “Shramdaan” and awareness activities for keeping the sphere of work neat and clean with special focus o­n all government offices, school premises, police stations, urban local bodies, public health centres in view of the directives of Hon’ble Prime Minister of India as a part of the clean India campaign. Hon’ble Prime Minister has also called for making the “Swachh Bharat Mission” a mass movement in order to achieve Gandhiji’s Dream to create a “Clean India” by the 150thBirth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi in 2019 the Collector said.

 The Member Secretary DWSM Tapan Kumar Rout said the mission aims to cover all households, provide community toilets, public toilets, and a solid waste management facility in each town. Under the programme, community toilets will be built in residential areas where it is difficult to construct individual household toilets. Public toilets will also be constructed in designated locations such as tourist places, markets, and bus stations.



Also the “The programme includes elimination of open defecation, conversion of unsanitary toilets to pour flush toilets, eradication of manual scavenging, municipal solid waste management and bringing about a behavioural change in people regarding healthy sanitation practices,” Rout added.

 Among others PDDRDA, Gopinath Saraka, PO OTELP Pabitra Mohan Nayak, Chairman Nabarangpur Block, Badabyasa Bhatra, Vice-chairman Kosagumuda block, DIPRO, Bhujang Bhusan Rao, CDPOs, Anganwadis, volunteer’s were present at the meeting.

Collector Md. Sadique Alm, inaugurated the “Swachhta  Ratha” and mass cleanness drive  was inaugurated to create awareness throughout the district.
