Nabarangpur district records 81. 21 per cent in voting

Notwithstanding polling in Nabarangpur on Thursday witnessed a record turnout of 81.21 per cent.
The Voters in near about 16 villages under Minister Ramesh Chandra Majhi’s Jharigam segment and home block of siting congress MP Pradeep Majhi, in the district boycotted elections protesting lack of development. 


Sources said Voting of highest 85 per cent recorded in Dabugam assembly constituency in the district. A total 1,50,891 voters exercise their franchise out of which 75,014 male and 75,877 female.  Similarly 78 % in Umerkote assembly segment a total 1,35, 939 voter 70,910 male and 65.029 female, in Jharigam 80 per cent polling a total of  1,55,503 voting 79,129 male and 66,174 female. While 82 per cent voting in Nabarangpur assembly segment a total of 1,72,796 voters 85,034 male and 87,753 female exercise their franchise in the district.


According reports over 1500 voters of tribal dominated Ichapur, Mundimal, Karlapada, Junaguda, Sindhiguda, Advasiguda, Siraguda and Majhiguda , villages under  booth nos 151 and 152 in Ichapur village in Jharigam block did not exercise their franchise in  protest against the state government’s apathy towards development in their villages.protesting lack of developmental activities in the area.


Sub-collector Parikhit Sethi, along with BDO Bijay Kumar Sethi, Tehsildar Abhimanyu Behera rushed to the village and tried to persuade locals to participate in the poll process, but in vain. 


Similar situation in Sindhibhatta, Sabarpada, Kadamalla, Mauhlkote, Uansupada, Natgurupada, Chalarpada, and Dumuniguda village under Chacha grampanchayat , only 17 Out of  835 eligible voters exercised their franchise in boot no 153 at Kadamall village under Jharigam block.
